Here are 8 different places to get images, quotes and text for your vision board (and most of them are free!). You really don’t need to spend much to create a vision board – you’ll probably have more materials in than you think.

Once you’ve got your images, you can get started creating your dream vision board, or maybe invite some friends over for a vision board party!

7 places to find Images for your Vision Board

Old Magazines

Magazines are a classic for vision boarding, as they often include glossy, aspirational images covering a wide range of topics that we can use for a vision board, whatever the theme.

Some of the top ways to get magazines:

• Ask your friends and family if they have any magazines they are willing to donate
• Check any local Facebook Marketplace freecycle groups, or send a message on your buildings whatsapp group
• Check thrift stores and charity shops for cheap finds
• You can buy them too! But I always try to ask around first

Free Newspapers

Grab a free newspaper at your local tube stop or train station, or you might find a stand at your local supermarket.

Newspapers can be great for cutting out lettering and headings to include amongst your images.

Collect Flyers and Leaflets

Collect any unwanted flyers, menus or leaflets which can be used for lettering or images – local hotels often display various leaflets by the reception desks, and you might find some flyers in your postbox too, so keep hold of those!

Embrace Junk Journalling

Junk journaling is the use of every day throwaway paper items, which could include receipts, airplane or train tickets, cereal boxes or takeaway packaging, and more!

These items are also known as ‘ephemera’, and can include postcards, papers, old letters, ticket stubs, playing cards, show tickets, greetings cards or sheet music.

I love watching people junk journal on instagram – the final products are always so creative! 

These items can be used as backgrounds on your vision board, they can be doodled over, or certain words or phrases can be cut out and added to your board.

Search for Images Online

If you’re looking to create a digital vision board, or you’re willing to print your pictures, there are plenty of places to find online images:

• Head to websites such as Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay and Burst by shopify which offer free images for personal use
• Canva is a great source for images, and it’s free; just create an account and off you go (some images require paid access, but there is an option to sign up to a 30 day free trial if you need specific images). Canva is also a popular platform for digital vision boarding.
• Flickr, Wikimedia Commons and Creative Commons offer free images, but be sure to search for images under the ‘creative commons’ license, as these are allowed for personal projects.

There are also specific vision board picture bundles you can buy for just a pound or two with everything you’d need for your vision board; if you’re planning to host a vision board party with your mates, this could be perfect as your prep will be done in an instant!

Get Drawing

If you enjoy the creative aspect of journalling and vision boarding, you could try drawing your image straight onto your vision board. You don’t need to be the most incredible artist; you could draw patterns, or doodle on different textured materials (using a variety of textures is an easy hack for making your board look impressive!) 

Pick out some sentimental Snaps

You could choose to include some of your own photographs to make your board even more personal to you. 

Try including photos of your family members or friends to represent your relationships, or snaps of your favourite trips if you plan to travel.
